Europe’s Most Beautiful Fairy Tale Village! 🇳🇱 Zaanse Schans Netherlands | Windmills, Cheese & Clogs

The crisp European breeze blows across open green fields, carrying the sweet aroma of fresh waffles and rich Dutch cheese.

Massive wooden windmills spin lazily against the skyline, reflected perfectly in the mirror-like canals below. Walking through Zaanse Schans feels less like taking a stroll and more like stepping straight into a living, breathing fairy tale picture book! Joined by my family, Ladli Didi, and Jiju, we set out on an unforgettable day exploring one of the Netherlands' most magical historic villages.

From trying on giant wooden clogs to over-indulging in Dutch cheese samples, every turn was an adventure!

1. Scenic Views & The Clog Factory Museum

Our day kicked off with breathtaking panoramic views from an observation tower before we dove into Dutch tradition:

• Fairytale Landscape: Historic windmills, cozy green wooden houses, and winding canals stretched out as far as the eye could see.
• The Clog Museum: We explored a fascinating museum filled with Dutch wooden shoes (clogs) of all shapes, sizes, and colors—historically worn by farmers for swampy farm work.
• Clog Trying & Live Demo: I tried squeezing my feet into traditional clogs (way harder than it looks!) and watched a cool live demonstration showing how wooden shoes are carved using specialized machinery.

2. Unlimited Cheese Tasting & Becoming a "Cheese Shop Owner"

As a self-proclaimed cheese lover, stepping into the Zaanse Schans Cheese Factory was absolute paradise!

• Free Samples Galore: We tasted dozens of distinct Dutch cheese flavors—from creamy original Gouda to spicy and herb-infused varieties.
• "I'm Not Coming Back to India!": I joked around that I was moving to the Netherlands permanently to open my very own cheese shop, with my friend working as an assistant paid purely in cheese!
• Cheese Overload: After eating way too many free samples, I went from loving cheese to feeling completely stuffed!

3. Movie Nostalgia & Historic Windmills

We wrapped up our village tour walking among the iconic wooden windmills:

• Jab Harry Met Sejal Vibes: We visited the exact wind-swept spot featured in the 2017 Bollywood movie Jab Harry Met Sejal staring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma!
• Super Windy Weather: The breeze near the water was so strong we had to hold onto our hats tightly so they wouldn't blow straight into the river.
